Does your company develop superb concepts, initiatives, processes or similar and set a real benchmark in the process? We want to reward excellent achievements in the fields of "safety at work", safety on the road" and "safety at home". Rather than focusing on the products, the award aims to highlight best practices in these categories.

The award process at a glance

1. Send us your application in your selected category by September, 13th 2019.

2. Complete your application in the online form. (To do so, follow the steps in the form.) Or download the application form as a PDF file and send it to us by e-mail at

3. The five-person jury will select and name the winners in each category on September 30th, 2019.

4. The category winners will be informed after the jury meeting at the latest. We would like to film a short trailer about your company and your project. If you agree to this, please provide for a day of filming at your company before the award ceremony.

5. In October, all nominated candidates will be published on the website.

6. The award ceremony will be held on October 23rd, 2019 in Berlin.

In the "Safety on the Road” category, the aim is to find startups, companies, organisations, initiatives or individ-uals who show outstanding performance in aspects relating to safety on the road.

Candidates for the DEKRA Award in this category are sought in the following areas, for example:

  • People and behaviour in road traffic: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures geared towards protecting people in road traffic. For example, these include protection of particular risk groups such as children, new drivers, the elderly, handicapped people etc. In addition, concepts focused on the behaviour of people in road traffic are addressed in this subject area. These include training and public information campaigns that highlight dangers caused by distraction, human error, fatigue or controlled substances in road traffic.
  • Traffic planning and infrastructure: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that make road traffic safer through predictive planning and infrastructure. This area includes improved information systems or outstanding developments in infrastructure that make a significant contribution to safety in traffic. This subject area also covers initiatives relating to targeted education of decision-makers and planners in traffic infrastructure.
  • Road safety technology: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that help to protect road users by means of innovative technical developments. The focus here is more on manufacturer-independent initiatives and developments than on company-specific product and technology developments.

In the "Safety at Work" category, the aim is to find startups, companies, organisations, initiatives or individuals who have shown outstanding performance in aspects relating to safety at work.
Candidates for the DEKRA Award in this category are sought in the following areas, for example:

  • Management commitment: The aim is to find companies, organisations and initiatives where managers are particularly committed to the subject of "safety at work" and thus make a significant contribution to improving safety at work.
  • Innovative management concepts: The aim is to find innovative management concepts that make a significant contribution to establishing the topic of "safety at work" within the organisation across all levels of the company and/or advancing it in terms of content.
  • Safety initiative: The aim is to find special safety initiatives that extend far beyond the normal safety standards and leed to a substantial improvement in safety at work.
  • Risk management: The aim is to find concepts that make it possible to identify risks relating to safety at work at an earlier stage and reduce them through fast and target-oriented action.
  • Safety training and communication: The aim is to find training and communication measures that show outstanding success in promoting safety in the workplace.
  • Diversity and safety: The aim is to find concepts that address the specialised safety requirements of specific employee groups and offer outstanding solutions.
  • Work and health: The aim is to find offers, initiatives and concepts that increase safety at work by improving the health and well-being of employees in the workplace.
  • Occupational health and safety in production: The aim is to find concepts and measures that help to improve safety in production by making working conditions safer for the employees who work there.

In the "Safety at Home" category, the aim is to find startups, companies, organisations, initiatives or individuals who have shown outstanding performance in aspects relating to safety at home.
Candidates for the DEKRA Award in this category are sought in the following areas, for example:

  • Prevention of accidents in the home: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that deal with accident prevention in the home. Measures to prevent mechanical, chemical or electrical risks are also taken into account when selecting the award winners.
  • Prevention of accidents in the immediate vicinity of the home: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that deal with accident prevention in the immediate vicinity of the home, e.g. in the yard and garden.
  • Fire safety: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that help to prevent fire hazards.
  • Health risks: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that help to prevent or reduce health risks in the home.
  • Target group: particularly vulnerable people: The aim is to find concepts, initiatives and measures that are dedicated to protecting particularly vulnerable people such as children, the elderly or handicapped people.
  • Campaigns and initiatives: The aim is to find training measures, campaigns or initiatives that deal with the subject of safety at home and have shown outstanding success in drawing attention to safety risks and/or possible solutions in the home.
